Science Educator (2025-2026 School Year)

 

Position Overview: 

As a Science Educator at our independent special education school, you will play a pivotal role in providing engaging and tailored science education to students with diverse learning needs. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement comprehensive science curricula that accommodates individualized learning styles, needs and ability, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Design and adapt science curricula to meet the unique needs and abilities of students with special educational requirements, ensuring alignment with state standards and educational goals.

  • Differentiated Instruction: Employ a variety of instructional strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and sensory needs, including visual aids, hands-on experiments, and adaptive technology, and more.

  • Individualized Learning Plans(IEP): Collaborate with special educator, special education coordinator, colleagues, therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student's strengths, challenges, and goals.

  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student progress using a variety of assessment tools and techniques.

  • Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active engagement, mutual respect, and social-emotional development.

  • Collaboration and Professional Development: Collaborate with colleagues to integrate science education with other subject areas and interdisciplinary themes, participate in professional development activities to stay current on best practices in special education and science education, and contribute to the school community.

  • Communication and Family Engagement: Maintain open and proactive communication with students, families, and caregivers regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for support, and involve families in their child's science education through regular updates, workshops, and events.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, Science Education, or a related field, or significant knowledge and experience in the content area. 

  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, and intellectual disabilities.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for working with students with special educational requirements.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a growth mindset.

Special Educator (2025-2026 School Year)

Job Summary:

Special educators are responsible for assisting in the designing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities or special needs. They work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals to ensure that each student receives appropriate support and achieves their educational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment: Conduct assessments to identify students' strengths, weaknesses, and learning needs. Use a variety of assessment tools and techniques to gather data on students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral skills.

  2. IEP Development: Work with sending schools to assist in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities or special needs. Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other professionals to set goals, select appropriate interventions, and monitor progress.

  3. Instruction: Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities or special needs by adapting and modifying curriculum materials and teaching methods to meet students' diverse learning styles and needs.

  4. Behavior Management: Implement behavior management strategies to support students with challenging behaviors. Develop behavior support plans, teach self-regulation skills, and provide social skills training to promote positive peer interactions.

  5. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other professionals to support inclusive education practices. Attend IEP meetings, participate in team meetings, and communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to coordinate services and support students' progress.

  6. Professional Development: Stay current with best practices, research findings, and legal requirements in the field of special education. Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and training opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.


 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.

  • State certification or Vermont licensure as a special education teacher.

  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students with disabilities succeed.
