BRIGHTality School Enrollment Policy

At BRIGHTality School, enrolling is completely optional for students and families. We welcome students in grades 6-12 who seek an alternative educational setting focused on social-emotional learning, individualized education, flexible pathways, hands-on lessons, community-integrated educational opportunities, and adaptability.

In alignment with William Glasser's philosophy of non-coercive discipline (Choice Theory), we believe that all individuals operate under the understanding that five basic needs must be met for effective learning and progress. At BRIGHTality, we provide support around these needs, helping students understand themselves and their interactions, ultimately enabling them to meet their needs and achieve their goals.

Enrollment Process:

1. Inquiry: The school district or family contacts BRIGHTality School to inquire about enrollment options.

2. School Tour: Interested students, families, and districts are invited for a school tour to familiarize themselves with our campus and staff. This visit allows them to ask questions and explore the possibility of attending BRIGHTality.

3. Needs Review: If the student and family agree that BRIGHTality is their school of choice, the BRIGHTality School team reviews the student's needs and goals to ensure that our environment is a suitable educational and social-emotional match for achieving those goals. However, no student shall be denied acceptance for enrollment on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity or any other classification protected by federal or State law.

4. Communication: BRIGHTality communicates with the school team and families to determine a start date, arrange an IEP meeting, and complete all necessary paperwork prior to the student’s first day.

5. Establishing Support: Once all paperwork is completed, we will establish a communication thread between the family and the BRIGHTality support and coordination team.

6. First Day of School: The student's first day at BRIGHTality is a celebratory occasion as they join our community!

We maintain regular contact with families to discuss their student’s progress and experiences. With an open line of communication, families and sending districts enjoy a direct and constant connection with our support and coordination team. At BRIGHTality, we recognize that we are all part of one cohesive group working towards a united outcome for the success of each student

Please Note: We want to make the enrollment process as straightforward as possible for our families. All applications are reviewed in the order they are received, and we keep this information confidential to ensure fairness. If our school has a waitlist, we still encourage all students and families to take a tour once their enrollment application is submitted. This way, everyone has the chance to learn more about our school and make an informed decision before choosing to join the waitlist. We believe in providing equal opportunities for all families as they consider joining our community.
